Pre-viz and storyboards from real location data
Halation builds pre-viz and storyboards from the actual locations a production is going to shoot — recce stills, drone scouts, 3D scans and measurements — rather than from generic imagery. Because the boards start from the real place, the angles, lens choices, sun position and blocking hold up on the day. Directors, DoPs and producers can test coverage, plan set-ups and spot problems before the unit arrives. We work alongside the location department and the first AD, and the boards are delivered in the formats a production already uses.
Our location work comes from the floor: Halation’s crew includes a working location manager.
What it covers
- Storyboards from recce stills and drone scouts
- Shot-by-shot pre-viz for coverage planning
- Lens and framing tests against real dimensions
- Sun-path and time-of-day studies
- Boards for agency, client and safety meetings
What we don’t do
- Board a location nobody has scouted and present it as real
- Use stock imagery as a stand-in for the location
- Replace the recce
How it works.
ProcessWe start on location
Recce stills, drone passes and scans of the real place, or the material your recce already has.
We block the scenes
Set-ups, lenses and movement worked out with the director and DoP.
We draw it up
Boards and pre-viz frames built from the location data.
We keep it current
Changes from tech recces and meetings go back into the boards.
